"The environment is where we all meet; where we all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing that all of us share. It is not only a mirror of ourselves, but a focusing lens on what we can become..."
~ Lady Bird Johnson
The best job I ever had was my first, working on a farm. I started in the summer following 8th grade and worked summers and weekends for two years. As a suburban kid this early experience opened an entirely new world to me and transformed how I saw myself in relationship to the wider environment.
Now, over 30 years later, I am extraordinarily excited to join the Land’s Sake team, working to connect the Weston community and beyond to the land and the environment. Lady Bird Johnson’s words embody two core values of our work- ecologically sound stewardship of land and building community in relation to the land.
I hope you will join us soon; whether that is sharing the bounty of fresh, locally grown, organic produce at the farm, or exploring Weston’s remarkable trail system, or participating in one of our many youth or adult experiential learning opportunities. Whatever your choice, you will connect with the history and living ecology of this unique area and join a remarkable community of plants, animals, birds, and people committed to conserving all this for the generations to come.
For close to three decades Land’s Sake has partnered with the town of Weston, the Weston Forest and Trail Association, the Weston Land Trust and others to sustainability steward the town’s forests and open space, provide environmental education and opportunities for people to meaningfully connect with their local ecology and landscapes. Working in partnership with members, volunteers and like minded organizations is at the heart of our work.
In just a short time I have been impressed with the following:
The coming years will be an exciting and productive time for Land’s Sake. I invite you to join us. I hope to see you at the farm, or at one of our upcoming workshops, or at one our farm to table supper clubs, or on one of the trails, or stop by the Malone House to say hello.
Best Regards,
Eric Kreilick
