ACTIVITIES

With a Community Focus for all Seasons

We welcome visitors of all ages to come to the farm to experience the beauty of community open space and to learn about agriculture and natural history.  Land's Sake offers various types of tours and educational programs, see the bottom of this page.  Also, we have various events and activities throughout the year, at the farm and at other locations.   The more you come out and explore the world around you, the more you will appreciate the various components and complexities of the natural world.  When we explore together, we expect you will learn a thing or two and maybe appreciate more the community stewardship work we do.  We hope you will come and join us in our efforts!

STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL

In June we hold our annual Strawberry festival to welcome summer and our first crop of the year. Children from all over the Greater Boston area come to enjoy the fresh strawberries, hayrides, folk music, face painting, barbeque, old fashioned strawberry shortcake, demonstrations and much more.

PICK YOUR OWN PRODUCE AND FARM STAND

Throughout the summer and fall people visit our Farm Stand to pick their own fresh, organically grown fruits and vegetables. A huge flower garden covering over an acre is a picking favorite. Strawberry, Raspberry and Blueberry fields provide popular and tasty family outings. The farm-stand is stocked with a wide variety of Weston grown produce from arugula to zucchini, along with such items as flowers and honey.

HARVEST FOR HUNGER

As part of the Green Power project, produce deliveries are made to local charitable organizations on a regular basis.  Most years we donate over 25,000lbs of food.  In 2005, Land's Sake won the "Second Helping Donor of the Year" from the Greater Boston Food Bank.  In the fall the farm holds a "Harvest for Hunger" day when local students and other people from the community join us to harvest our squash and root crops to take to soup kitchens and then share a hearty harvest meal.

MAPLE SUGARING

Each spring, students take part in the maple syruping process, from "tapping out" the sugar maple trees to observing the boiling down of the sap during the "sugaring off". This is a great way to introduce younger students to the value of Weston's trees and forests.

ACTIVITIES, BIRTHDAY PARTIES, WEDDINGS & EVENTS

FAQs about having events and parties at the farm:

1. How do I know if a date or time is available? How do I reserve a date and time?
The online calendar (http://www.landssake.org/calendar/) is what we use to schedule and reserve dates and times for tours and events. Let us know how many people plan to attend prior to making a reservation. You may send email or call the office to make the reservation.

2. What type of "pick-your-own"produce will be available?
Though we are at the mercy of Mother Nature, we always have seasonally available, organically grown produce.  Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherry tomatoes, beans and peas are seasonally available, as well as all kinds of pick-your-own herbs and flowers. Kids and adults alike can learn about the produce we grow and pick their dinner for that evening. Anything picked or available at the farm stand is for sale as marked or posted. Special arrangements can be made to have a prepaid picking coupons for you and your guests.

3. Are there picnic tables where we could bring and serve our own refreshments?
We have about a dozen picnic tables and several folding tables. The picnic tables are available to the public.  They can be arranged as you wish behind the farm stand, under the trees in the shade. You may bring any refreshments that you like. We have running water available. We do ask that you take any trash generated and take out what you bring into the farm.

4. I'd like to have my child's birthday party or a Halloween party.  Can I arrange something like that?

Yes.  Please refer to our Birthday Party information sheet where you will learn all about the fun things you can do at the farm for a group of kids.  Organizations can arrange hayrides and group tours as well, so please give us a call.

5. Can I have a large birthday party, event or wedding at Land's Sake Farm?

Yes, but we're going to have to talk about it.  Please call us to go over your ideas.  Various fees and staff support will be required.  Thanks for your interest.

6. May I just come and have a picnic without a tour?
The land and farm are available and open to all for free. Anyone and everyone is invited and welcome to come to the farm and enjoy the scenery, the land, a pleasant day. You may spread out a blanket anywhere on the property and bring your own food and refreshments and enjoy the farm and have a picnic. No reservation is required, and you may come and leave at anytime during the day, regardless of when the farm and farm stand are open.

However, we ask :

  • Please take away what you bring in, leaving the land and surroundings as you found them
  • Please arrange your event or visit to not interfere with daily farm activities, staff, volunteers or other visitors
  • Please make sure pets be on a leash at all times

If you do anticipate needing the tables, want to spread out a bit, or arrange for such activities as a scavenger hunt, hay ride, tour, or need the staff to help with your event, let us know in advance so we can arrange to help you.  Thanks for coming to Land's Sake Farm!
