Our programs are designed to excite students to learn more about the outside world and feel comfortable on the farm. Flexible online registration allows families to register for the day(s) of the week that best fit their schedule through the season.

Fall Afterschool Sprouts (Kindergarten)

Send your Sprout to Land’s Sake Farm this fall to enjoy one of the best times of the year…harvest time! Sprouts will explore basic gardening, ecology, and animal care concepts. Our focus will be on learning through play and hands-on experience. Students will bring home seasonal produce from the Children’s Garden when available. Land’s Sake educators will meet the children at the Weston Community Center to walk to the Farm (90 Wellesley Street, Weston) together. ** On early release days the program will be held from 11:30am-1:30pm. Land’s Sake educators will meet the children at the Country and Woodland Schools to walk over to the farm together, where they will then eat lunch. Parents should pick-up children at 1:30pm at the Farm on early release days.

Fall Afterschool Explorers (1st- 3rd grade)

Send your Explorer to Land’s Sake Farm this fall to enjoy one of the best times of the year…harvest time! Explorers will dig deeper into gardening concepts, learn how to care for our chickens and rabbits, explore the seasonal changes in autumn, and find out how to identify local trees, plants, and animals. Explorers will bring home produce from the Children’s Garden when available. Land’s Sake educators will walk with your students from the Weston Community Center to Land’s Sake, pick-up will be at
Land’s Sake (90 Wellesley Street). Land’s Sake educators will meet the students at the Recreation Department and will walk to the Farm together.

Fall Afterschool Stewards (4th and 5th grade)

Stewards will get a behind the scenes look at how the farm is run and gain hands-on experience in weeding, watering, and harvesting from our garden. They will gain confidence in taking care of our animals and participating in group projects involving decision making and problem solving skills. Friendships are strengthened and strong group dynamics are encouraged. Our after school club is the
place to be for all the cool kids that love the land! Stewards will bring home seasonal garden produce from the Children’s Garden when available. Land’s Sake educators will meet students at Field School and walk to the farm. Pick up will be at Land’s Sake (90 Wellesley St.).

For students in 4th and 5th grade

After School Maple

Designed to actively involve youth in all phases of maple sugar production, students help identify and tap maple trees, gather sap, and boil and bottle syrup. Students learn the rich heritage of sugaring in New England from past to present, as well as the science behind the sugaring process. The season ends with the popular Land’s Sake Sugaring Off event, held at the Sugar House, where students lead tours using the knowledge acquired over the season.

  • For students in 6th-8th grades
  • Jan 27 – Mar. 20, 2014
  • Mondays & Thursdays from 2:45-5:15pm
  • Cost: $235 per Monday OR Thursday session (8 weeks), Land’s Sake Members receive “badge” discount of $215.
  • Students are asked to attend the Sugaring Off Festival on the 22nd of March from 9am to 1pm to culminate their experience.
  • Students earn a share of the profit generated by the sale of maple syrup at the Sugaring Off Festival on March 22nd.

Winter Discovery Week (Kindergarten through 5th grade)

Join us during February vacation week at the Bill McElwain Sugar House located at the Weston Middle School for winter fun and learning! Our experienced educators will facilitate exploration and learning in a way that is complimentary to the group’s age range and dynamics. With a 1:5 educator to student ratio, the older children will be able to take on leadership roles in some of the more challenging projects, while younger children will be able to learn from peer to peer mentoring opportunities. Land’s Sake Educators will demonstrate different maple sugaring techniques each day, such as tree tapping, sap collecting and boiling. In addition to getting a first-hand look into the sugaring process, children will explore the winter woodlands, track animals, investigate habitats, and learn how to sustainably care for our local maple trees and woodlands. We will also get out of the cold and spend time snug in the sugar house making winter crafts, reading stories and nature journaling. “Valet” drop-off available.

Discovery Week: April Vacation (Kindergarten through 5th grade)

This program is perfect for siblings, cousins, and friends of multiple ages that are interested in seeing nature and the farm come alive in the spring! Hands-on activities will include garden preparation, animal care, foraging for wild edibles, starting seeds and more! Our experienced educators will guide students through each activity allowing children to develop a deep understanding of our local ecosystems, gardening cycles and their own enthusiasm for being outdoors. Older children will be encouraged to take on leadership roles in some of the more challenging projects while younger children will benefit from peer mentorship, building each child’s cooperative learning and communication skills. Register for one day or up to all four. We offer “valet” drop-off for your convenience.

Spring Afterschool Sprouts (Kindergarten)

Introduce your child to the wonders of nature at Land’s Sake Farm! Sprouts will explore ecosystems from forests to gardens through hands-on activities that emphasize sensory-based learning, scientific foundations, and creativity. Children will gain confidence in their knowledge and know-how of growing in the garden, identifying plants, caring for farm animals and exploring the outdoors. A 1:5 educator-to-child ratio allows the program flexibility to follow children’s individual interests and curiosities within a safely structured environment. Land’s Sake educators will meet the children at the Weston Community Center to walk to the Farm (90 Wellesley Street, Weston) together.

No Kindergarten, No Problem: Fun at the Farm (Kindergarten)

Looking for a way to fill you Kindergartener’s “No School Day” with creative and fun activities outdoors? We’ve got the perfect program for your child and your schedule! Children will explore the Education Garden, visit with the farm animals and play fun farm games. Register for one day or up to all three “No School Days.” We offer “valet” drop-off for your convenience.

Students will cultivate their eco-literacy through hands-on activities, building projects, and fun new games. As Explorers, children are introduced to more in-depth topics of plant life cycles, soil health, and animal husbandry and are challenged to strengthen their cooperative skills through project-based activities. Land’s Sake educators will meet the students at the Recreation Department and will walk to the Farm together.
