Large scale land management
Land's Sake has pioneered a public-private partnership with the Town of Weston to manage public conservation land for the benefit of the community. We manage diverse types of public land, including old farmland, orchards, and forests within Weston. We create a working landscape, actively farming some fields and maintaining the agricultural capacity and aesthetic heritage of farming by mowing and retaining old fields as open space. We also support the community gardens where plot-holders seasonally utilize their garden allotments.
We have performed various consulting, management and restoration projects for the Town of Weston and also other nearby communities. We also work with local land trusts, garden clubs, and condominium associations to promote sustainability on the land they are charged with.
Some of our services for landholding institutions include:
Consulting:
- ecological management plans for non-profit conservation organizations, estates, large land owners and landscaping businesses
- native and naturalized plant design and installation to accommodate the natural surrounding landscape for homeowners and businesses
Installation:
- installation of walkways, retaining walls and garden ornaments
- permaculture installations
- orchard and berry shrub installations
Management:
- renovation of old and/or overgrown gardens and public properties
- seasonal pruning of trees, shrubs, and vines
- corrective pruning of overgrown woody plants, particularly near buildings, pools and other structures
- application of horticultural oil to control scale insects and the hemlock woolly adelgid
Restoration:
- field mowing for towns and estates
- invasive plant removal with replacement recommendations
- erosion control using site-appropriate plants and barrier structures
- ecological management of natural communities (large and small scale)
- plant salvage program specific to client needs
